*Written: December 22 [late afternoon] - 23 [1:30AM in the morning]
Christmas song were heard playing from the radio. Dimly lit Christmas lights were put up in neighbors' houses. Snow slowly falling from the night sky. Stars twinnkling brightly above the cold, snow-covered streets. Passers-by, group of friends, laughing, giggling, and enjoying the presence of one another. Young couples with an arm wrapped tight around the other. Older couples holding hands through the white snow. People who just finished their late-minute Christmas shopping were briskly walking back to their homes carrying bags from different stores. It's a feeling. A feeling Christmas is already here. Everyone could feel it.
"Dai-chaaa~n!"
"Hai?" The said boy turned his back from observing the people outside the window to face his caller.
"Here," Chinen said, handing Daiki a mug of hot chocolate.
"Arigato ne." Daiki smiled.
"Iie. Arigato ne," Chinen replied, smiling brightly at Daiki. "For helping me put up the Christmas tree, and for helping me wrap everyone's presents."
"It was no problem. I enjoyed every minute of it," Daiki said, still smiling. He turned back to looking out the window again before adding, "as long as I got to be with you."
Chinen blushed, but Daiki didn't notice. Stammering a little, Chinen said, "A-ano...I'm going to continue putting up the tree now." Before Daiki, could say anything, he quickly walked back to the old box just beside the Christmas tree, which was just at the corner of the room.
Daiki turned back, looking at Chinen walking away. He put his mug down on the coffee table in front of the television and approached Chinen who was already putting up the last few branches for the tree.
Daiki noticed Chinen struggling with one of the branches so he asked, "Need some help?"
Chinen vigourously shook his head, still trying to put on the branch. "Iie," he said. "I can do it."
Acting all tough again? Daiki grinned. "Are you sure?"
"H-hai," Chinen replied, twisting and turning the branch. "I. Can. Do. This." Chinen managed the words in between his struggles.
Daiki chuckled. Chinen amused him sometimes.
Daiki knelt beside Chinen. He held Chinen's hand that was holding the branch. The gesture made Chinen blush, but he didn't dare look at Daiki in the eye. Daiki slowly moved their hands together until there was a 'click'. Chinen noticed that the branch was put on. Slowly, Chinen looked up to a smiling Daiki, still blushing. He also noticed that Daiki was still holding his hand, longer than necessary. Chinen's blush darkened.
Daiki, having realized and noticed their hands, quickly pulled his hand back to his side. Chinen was about to say something, but was cut off when Daiki suddenly said, "I'll help you attach the other branches, ne?" Chinen just nodded. "Un."
After having finished attaching the rest, the two of them continued wrapping some of the gifts Chinen will give to the others in the dining room. The dining table was full of colorful gift wrappers, ribbons, tags, Christmas cards, decorations, and random items.
"I still don't get why you have to give Yuto a stuffed ladybug," Daiki said, stuffing the said item into a homemade gift bag he made.
Chinen sighed. "I told you. It's because he likes insects, remember?"
"I know. But why not give him a magnifying glass," Daiki paused before continuing. "Or an ant farm."
"Maa, I found it cute." Chinen pouted while wrapping a ribbon around a huge container of strawberries and a big stuffed strawberry with a small face on it--that was obviously for Ryosuke. "It was either that 'cause it's cute, or the stuffed walking stick bug 'cause it reminded me of Yuto--thin and tall."
Daiki stifled a laugh. "Hai. Hai. I get it. But why do you have to give everyone two presents?"
"I felt like it," Chinen simply answered.
Daiki suspiciously told him, "You're not usually this generous."
"Well, this year I am. I'll give a big present, and one small one," Chinen replied happily.
Convinced, and didn't want to argue, Daiki just nodded with a smile as he started to stuff the stuffed hamster--obviously for Ryutaro--in another one of his special homemade gift bags.
"I'm going to start decorating the tree!" Chinen suddenly blurted after a short moment of silence, putting down a wrapped box with the scarf for Takaki.
Startled, Daiki looked up and asked, "Don't you think it'd be easier if you focused on one task first? You know? Rather than jumping from one to another?"
Chinen pouted. "I promise that I'll finish decorating the tree before finishing up the gifts."
Daiki shook his head lightly, smiling. "Fine. I'll join you in a minute, ne?"
"Un!" Chinen rished off back to the living room.
In the living room, Chinen climbed up the steps of the short ladder, and cautiously bent down to grab a hold of one of the sparkly red, ruffly things they wrap around Christmas trees. He pulled out one of the end and wrapped it around the tree, starting from the bottom, working his way to the top. When he reached the middle of the tree, Chinen started to wobble. Losing his balance completely, he fell off the ladder with a yelp, and into the big box of Christmas decorations just below.
Daiki's head shot up immediately from wrapping the sunglasses Chinen bought for Hikaru as a gift when he heard the light crash coming from the living room. "Chii..?" He stood up quickly and rushed to the next room. As he entered, he looked around the room swiftly, but caught no sight of Chinen. "Chii..?" he called out once more. No one answered.
Worried, Daiki approached the Christmas tree Chinen was supposed to be decorating. He walked around the tree, but still didn't see the younger boy. Then, he noticed the red ruffly string Chinen was wrapping around the treet earlier. Half of the string was wrapped around the tree, while the other end was on top of the other decorations in the box. "Chii..?"
Suddenly, Chinen popped out of the big box of decorations and spitted out some of the sparkly, green-colored ruffly thing. Startled, Daiki automatically jumped back in response. "Yech!" Chinen spitted out more of the green ruffly things. Daiki sighed in relief.
"What were you doing in there?!"
"I fell off the ladder."
Daiki approached the box Chinen was still in. "You should be more careful. I worry about you a lot, you know."
"I'm sorry, Dai-chan," Chinen apologized looking down.
Daiki sighed once more. Chinen noticed and told Daiki, "To make it up to you, I'll give you one of the gifts I was supposed to give you, okay?" Chinen gave a teary, apologetic face. Daiki noticed that there was a big red ribbon on Chinen's hair. It probably stuck onto him when he went out of the box.
Daiki went closer to the box, and wrapped his arms around the boy that was in it. That stopped Chinen from crying completely. Instead, the tears were replaced with a dark red tint on his cheeks
With one of his hands, Daiki removed the ribbon and handed it over to Chinen, and continued to wrap his arms around the smaller boy. Chinen took the ribbon from Daiki's hands and placed it back into the box.
Chinen, then, felt Daiki's breath on his ear. He could make out the words that came out from Daiki's lips. "Chii," Daiki began. "I don't want a lot for Christmas. There's just one thing I need." Chinen stiffened a little, then slowly, but involuntary, relaxed in Daiki's arms. Daiki continued, his warm breath lingering near Chinen's ear once more. "All I want fro Christmas is you."
Chinen, a bit surprised, turned a bit to face Daiki. To make him even more surprised, Daiki gave Chinen a light peck on the lips. It was short, but sweet. After breaking the kiss, Chinen noticed the light pink of Daiki's cheeks, and felt his cheek turn the same color. Daiki smiled at Chinen as he helped him out of the box, giving him another kiss, but on the cheek.
As they were finishing up decorating the tree, Chinen started, "Ne, Dai-chan."
Trying his best to reach the top of the tree on pointed toes, Daiki replied, "Hm?"
"All I want for Christmas is you, too." He could hear a smile as Chinen said those.
Daiki looked down at Chinen, who was hanging some more decorations at the bottom of the tree. He noticed the smile. Daiki smiled in return, even though Chinen wouldn't see it now. Finally, Daiki placed the star on top of the Christmas tree.
