Prologue: Catching Lightning [link :D]


"Tadaima!" Chinen called out as he entered his house. As he turned on the lights, he giggled. "Oh yeah. I'm going to be living alone for a week."


Daiki hesitantly stood in the doorway. He watched as Chinen sighed and turned to face him. Chinen tugged on Daiki's wrist. "Ne, Dai-chan, let's go in."


Chinen kept on tugging at Daiki's wrist, but Daiki didnt move. Chinen looked back, and in a worried tone, asked, "Dai-chan..?" Daiki finally regained himself. "We're just going to dance, right?" he though to himself as he gave Chinen a warm smile.


Chinen looked up at Daiki, then smiled back. Daiki took off his shoes and finally entered Chinen's house. This time, Chinen let his hands slip down and got hold of Daiki's hand as he pulled Daiki into their living room.

"Hai, Dai-chan~!" Chinen said, holding out his hand.


"Eh..?" Daiki titled his head in confusion. "I thought I was supposed to be the guy!"


Chinen dropped his hand and sighed. "Do you know how to waltz?"


Daiki shook his head.


"Then I'll lead."


Daiki pouted but finally agreed. He stood up from the couch while Chinen was putting a CD on their stereo. Chinen approached Daiki and held out his hand once more.


Take my hand, take a breath...


Daiki shakily accepted Chinen's hand. "Breathe, Dai-chan," Chinen told him jokingly.


Pull me close, and take one step...


The music started playing. It filled the room with a slow-soothing tune. Chinen leaned closer to Daiki and started taking a step. "Follow my lead, ne."


Keep your eyes locked on mine...


Daiki looked down at their feet. Chinen places a hand on Daiki's chin and tilted his head up so Daiki was looking straight at him. Daiki blushed. "Iie, Dai-chan," Chinen told him. "Try to follow without looking down. Keep looking me in the eyes, okay?" Daiki gave a small, shy nod.


And let the music be your guide...


"Just follow the music!" Chinen said happily, smiling at Daiki. Daiki managed a small smile, and blood rushed to his head once more. His cheeks were starting to turn pink again.


Daiki let Chinen lead the dance around he living room. At first, Daiki would step on Chinen's feet once in a while. Chinen would groan in pain, but would still smile reassuringly after. After some time, Daiki finally got the hang of it. Chinen may be shorter, but he also managed to twirl Daiki around a few times.


One twirl caused Daiki to hit one side of the couch. Chinen tried to balance the both of them, but due to his small body, and the fact that Daiki was heavier than him, made him fall on his back on the couch. His feet was just supposed to be dangling on one end, but he accidentally pulled Daiki with him. Daiki, on the other hand, was on top of Chinen. Chinen had closed his eyes as his back hit the--fortunately--soft couch. Daiki had also closed his eyes as he, too, fell.


Slowly, Chinen opened his eyes as Daiki also opened his. They eventually made contact, locking their eyes deep into each others'. Both of them turned almost the same shade of red.


"G-gomenasai," Daiki stammered, turning even a darker shade of red. He slowly tried to balance himself and stood up. He held out his arm to also help Chinen up. Daiki tried to look away, hoping not to make eye contact with Chinen.


"H-hai. A-arigato," Chinen managed to reply. From the corner of his eye, he would glance at Daiki ever so often.


". . ."


For some moments, the two boys couldn't look at each other, not say a word. Within seconds, the room was filled with total awkward silence. They just stood there--a few feet apart from each other.


"N-nande..." Daiki thought to himself. "Nande..."


His thoughts were cut off when Chinen finally spoke, "Ne...Dai-chan..." He spoke with a hint of shyness in his voice.


Daiki resisted the urge to look up. "N-nan desu ka..?"


"Are you hungry?"


Totally surprised by the question, Daiki's head shot up, and he looked at Chinen confused. "Eh!?"


Chinen just stood there, avcoiding Daiki's gaze as he spoke. There was still a bit of pink left on his cheeks. "I invited you over...and it's so rude of me not to serve you anything to eat...Gomen..."


Daiki just looked as Chinen slowly lifted his head up to look at Daiki. Chinen's pure innocent face made Daiki blush again. But Daiki managed a small nod.

The two of them ate in Chinen's dining room in complete silence. Chinen just warmed up the gyoza his mom left in the fridge for him before they left. The clinking of the plates, the sound of the chopticks, and the chewing were kept in total minimum volume level.


Chinen thought of talking, then brushed it aside thinking it was out of the question. Daiki now felt that the expression 'drowning in silence' couldn't get more literal. Chinen swallowed his last piece of gyoza, and couldnt take it anymore.


"Dai-chan..."


Daiki slowly looked up from his plate.


"Do...do you still want to practice later..?" Chinen almost too hesitantly asked.


Daiki gave a quick--but sure and firm--nod. Daiki, himself, got caught off-guard by his own gesture.


Chinen, too, was surprised. But he eventually gave a small nod, and managed a smile.


"Dai-chan..." he called out once more.


Daiki looked at him again.


"Let's practice at my room after dinner, okay?"


Daiki's eyes widened in surprise, but gave another nod anyway.

Daiki helped Chinen clean up and wash the dishes. Still, what Chinen said earlier stayed in his mind.


Let's practice at my room after dinner, okay?


It was officially after dinner, and Chinen went to the living room to take the CD out of the stereo. He asked Daiki to go up ahead first since Daiki had been over many times and would already know his way.


"I've been here a lot of times," Daiki thought. "Why is it this time that I'm acting this way?"


Daiki slowly opened the door to Chinen's room. When he entered, he sat on the chair near Chinen's study table.


One of the objects on Chinen's table caught his eye. It was a picture on a green picture frame. He carefully picked it up, and looked at the picture. It was the two of them--smiling their brightest smiles and cherishing their best moments together. He noticed that in Chinen's mirror, there were also the pictures they took, having so much fun, in the purikura booth in the amusement park.


Daiki almost jumped when he heard the door open. Chinen went directly to the stereo in his room and played the CD immediately. He pulled Daiki to stand up. "Ready, Dai-chan?" Daiki had no other choice but to just nod.


Once the music started playing, Chinen fixed Daiki's hand positioning as they slowly danced around his room. But this time, Daiki noticed that Chinen was letting him lead. Daiki tried his best, and slowly, he saw Chinen's lips curve into a smile.


Won't you promise me...
(Now won't you promise me that you'll never forget...)


They finished their practice aftr three rounds of the full music. They slowly let their hands drop to their sides.


"Chii..." Daiki started this time. "Arigato."


Chinen just looked up and smiled at Daiki. Then he looked down sadly.


"Daijoubu..?" Daiki asked him, obviusly worried.


"Ah...Hai...It's just that..." Chinen trailed off.


"Nani?"


"Will you...will you stay over for the week?" Chinen asked shyly.


"Eh?"


"If you don't want to...then...it's okay, Dai-chan..."


Daiki noticed the sadness in Chinen's voice. "I'll stay over for the week."


Chinen looked up and saw Daiki smiling. "Hontou!?"


"Un," Daiki replied cheerfully.


Chinen hugged Daiki tightly, and Daiki hugged Chinen back. "Arigato, Dai-chan!"


When Chinen let go of Daiki, Chinen had on a serious face. "Promise me, Dai-chan."


"Eh?


"Promise me one thing, okay?"


Daiki hesitated for a bit, but agreed anyway. He didn't ask Chinen what it was about.


"Promise me...that you'll never forget the steps, okay?" Chinen smiled.


Daiki, then relaxed, and gave Chinen a smile. "Hai!"


We'll keep dancing...
